INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT

IPM is a comprehensive, systems-based approach to pest management with the goal of providing the safest, most effective, most economical, and sustained remedy to pest infestations. IPM reduces the risk from pests or vectors while also reducing the risk from the overuse or inappropriate use of hazardous chemical pest-control products.

What is IPM and why is it important?

IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.

Barn Owl Nest Box Project- Poison Free Belize

For help with Barn Owls in private homes, we can install a nest box and relocate babies over to the man-made habitat boxes so you can keep natural pest control right around your home. OR we can remove and raise Barn owl babies at the center in habitat boxes which then are installed in strategic locations to help within the agricultural sector so we can phase out rodenticide.

This beautiful female Barn Owl died from eating a poisoned rat and her babies were found dead. That family of Barn owls would have eaten 8000 rats that year. Please do not poison their dinner!

What does rodenticide actually do??

When using a product to control pest, do you know what the poison is doing to the animal you are trying to control? What about the animals that eat the poisoned pest?

What can you do to help?

Become a volunteer. We are seeking volunteers from all districts to do educational outreach and teach communities about the dangers of rat poison to human health, wildlife and the environment. This is the only way we will be successful in phasing out rodenticides from Belize.

Consider making a donation towards our educational campaign to help us print educational materials, build barn owl habitats and much more. You can do this as a tax exempt donation through our donate button or through our GoFundMe link below.
